It was this haunting image of homelessness – as well as its often-overlooked impact on children – that inspired the creation of Children Today.

Children Today is an advocate for the needs of children in a system that typically sees homelessness as a problem only affecting adults. The goal of Children Today is simple – to increase the safety of children from homeless families and provide quality childcare services absolutely free of charge. Our first project, Play House West, opened its doors on June 15, 2000.

Since its inception, Play House West has touched the lives more than 750 infants and young children. Through the generous support of our donors, we are now accepting enrollments for our second site, Play House North, opening in February 2008, which will allow us to double the number of children we serve.

In the years to come, as Children Today grows, we plan to undertake more projects to address the needs of at-risk children in the Long Beach area.
