Beyond what one might find in quality, mainstream child development facilities, we are distinguished by an added level of advocacy and support geared towards children and families who have experienced trauma. Program staff leverage relationships with a comprehensive network of partners and community supporters to ensure that families get the resources they need to move forward.
WAYS WE HELP
Basic Needs We provide families with food, clothing, shoes, diapers, and hygiene products to ensure they can utilize their own resources on housing and financial stability. When families are ready to move in to their own place, we coordinate donations of furniture and household goods to help them make their new house into a home.
Early Interventions Many of the children we care for experience developmental delays or behavioral challenges. Through regular assessments and careful observation, teachers can help families decide when to seek diagnostic and treatment services for these issues, which can impact children's readiness for school. Program partners provide in-depth assessments and necessary referrals to ensure children with special needs get the help they need.
Mental Health Care Children Today partners with a variety of mental health service providers to ensure that children and families who need them, receive regular counseling and mental health care.
Coordination of Services Children Today works with a comprehensive network of homeless and social service providers to create a safety net for some of the most vulnerable families in Long Beach who have few, if any other means of support.
